Physics Department Udai Pratap College Varanasi
Physics, the most fundamental of the sciences, contributes to the technological infrastructure and provides the trained personnel/youth needed to take advantage of scientific advances and discoveries. Recently, developments in quantum computing and quantum information, as one of the emerging key technologies of the 21st century, are based on the concept of quantum physics. The Department of Physics at the Udai Pratap (Autonomous) College, Varanasi, is the epitome of an organisation dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of the sciences over a period of more than seven decades. The Graduate (B.Sc) course commenced in 1950 and the post-graduate, M.Sc-Physics, course (with advanced electronics as a specialization) began in 1972. This department is home to 300 undergraduate and 28 PG students. The Department also offers PhD programmes in Physics. The department has ten (10) faculty members/positions interested in Molecular Spectroscopy, Quantum Chemistry, Non-Linear and Quantum Optics, and Bio and Solar Cell Materials research. A continuing demand for improved academic quality and to orient PG students towards preliminary research training was eased somewhat with the addition of a course in the PG IVth semester called dissertation. The Department has organised a couple of successful international workshops on Spectroscopic Signatures of Molecular Complexes in Our Atmosphere and Beyond in the memory of our founder, Great Rajarshi ji that attracted scientists from every part of the world.
